Cookie Ashton

My main objective in creating art is to try and move the senses by giving an intensification of reality. I am particularly interested in engaging the viewer as a participant interpreting and interacting with my paintings.

My observations of nature, nesting and nurturing infinitely interest me and are recurrent themes in my artwork. The transitions, transformations, and expectations inherent in these areas provide challengers without end.

Complete happiness never seems to occur in the completion of a work of art…yet, the promise of it is felt in the process itself each time a work is started. It is the great insufficiency that drives me. You could say that the act of creating becomes more essential that the artwork.

Cookie is from Texas and currently resides in Houston. Born an only child and living at an early age in a remote part of Venezuela contributed to the development of her creative talents.

Since graduating from the University of Oklahoma, Cookie has never stopped studying, learning and experimenting with various materials and mediums. She has studied at the Centro Bellas Artes in Venezuela; The Glassell School at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, TX; the Instituto de Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Les Illusiones School, Les Cerqueux, France; University of London, Chelsea Art School; the Slade School, London, England; as well ass numerous workshops from selected well-known artists.
