Laura Rathe Fine Art Announces Currents Beneath the Surface, a duo exhibition featuring Austin based artists, Caprice Pierruci and Sydney Yeager. LRFA will be hosting the opening reception on Saturday, June 29th, from 6-9pm at 2707 Colquitt St.
Both influenced by nature and geological formations, the artworks of Caprice Pierucci and Sydney Yeager deconstruct form to create fluid and fragmented movement.
Through sinuous repetition, texture, progressive rhythms, and linear abstractions Pierucci’s sculptures create a visual language that discusses eternity and time. The undulating rhythms in the forms speak of mortality and the huge expanses of time that lead to one particular moment of beauty.
In the paintings of Sydney Yeager there is a relentless balance between control and chaos. Her mark makings reveal a fluid gesture and the unique qualities of her selected medium, exploring oil paints sensuous texture and viscosity on a linen canvas.
The thick interwoven brushstrokes come together and yet, stand-alone creating a continuity that is constantly threatened with disintegration.
The artworks in Currents Beneath the Surface are inspired by natural forms coming to life as abstract sculptures and paintings.
The exhibition will be on display through August 10, 2019.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Caprice Pierucci received her BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1983 and her MFA degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1989. She is a sculptor currently working mainly with wood. The forms use progressive rhythm to create movement and shadow. Her most recent work deals with the idea of forms developing over time. The layers and undulating rhythms in the forms speak of mortality and the huge expanses of time that lead to one particular moment of beauty.
Caprice has been in over ninety exhibitions and has won numerous awards. Her work is included in prestigious collections such as Westinghouse, Morgan Stanley and the Rockefeller collection.
Sydney Yeager is a Texas artist, having received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and her Masters in Fine Art from the University of Texas, Austin. She grew up just outside of Austin and currently lives and works in Austin, TX. Sydney started creating art over 35 years ago working in oil paint on a linen canvas using big/bold visceral brush strokes and color to create depth, and often leaving the blank space of the raw linen untouched.
Her work is included in the permanent collection at the MFA in Houston, as well as other noted museums in Texas, and in highly regarded corporate collections such as BBVA, Toyota, Samsung, Neiman Marcus, and American Airlines.
